Commedia Dell’Arte course. Traditional theatre to contemporary theatre
March 28-April 8 and July 18-July 29, 2011
ILE organizes 2 week courses in theatre in Florence for actors to enhance their physical expression and learn the techniques of storytelling and improvisation as well as scene study analyzing the major authors together with the tradition of the Commedia Dell’Arte through Moliere, Shakespeare, Goldoni and Beckett. Dancing and learning about mask making are also part of this workshop. The Drama course is aimed at participants and students who already have some experience in theatre. The course is geared toward understanding the historic “Commedia dell Arte” (Comedy of Art), developed in Italy, brings a comic drama that leads students to develop a satirical, bright and positive view of the world and also see its relations to power and conflict.
The actor, director, educator and writer Roberto Andrioli alongside professional dancer and actor Marco Bendoni, will lead this theatre workshop. Andrioli, of Florentine origin, studied at PiccoloTeatro Scuola di Milano under the direction of Giorgio Strehler, working on numerous productions in Italy and abroad. Some include Piccolo Teatro di Milano, Mama Experimental Theatre Club in New York, The French Theatre Company Danza Jean Duroure Francois, Il teatro di Metastasio Prato, Il Baltinsky Dom St. Petersburg, Lacorte Ospitale di Rubiera, L’artistic di Pavia. He is a multifaceted artist who loves working in diverse genres of prose and theatre, from musicals to Commedia dell’Arte. His work has reached the world of television, radio and theatre and he has taught drama techniques and is a well-known mask-maker.
Marco Bendoni, a professional dancer and Commedia Dell’Arte actor, works assiduously with recognized instrumental groups and baroque music such as Arpegiatta or Savall and combines their art with the teaching profession, offering numerous dance workshops throughout the world.
The course will take place in Florence and combine body expression/language and acting. Participants will have the opportunity to learn at the Teatro Cestello, one of the most traditional drama centers in the city and to dance to a choreographed Renaissance noble Italian dance as well as organize performances in and around Florence.
2 week session: 900€(includes 4o hours of instruction, accommodation in a double room)
