Circolombia’s New Show Acéléré at Chicago Shakes!
Circolombia, the Colombian based circus, is bringing their latest show Acéléré to the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre as the culminating event of Destinos—the 2nd annual Chicago International Latino Theater Festival. That festival has been going on since Sept 20 all over the city, with lots of exciting work!
I reviewed Circolombia 6 years ago when they performed at the New Victory Theatre in New York. It was a different show, called Urban, and I think it was one of their first shows. As I recall, I loved the acts, and was less enthralled with the writing and acting of the show. (They were very young performers at the time, and I felt their circus virtuosity overshown their performing virtuosity) I am very excited to see how the performers have matured and changed as they have been working together. (And looking at their website, I see that Circolombia has several shows and outfits creating work, so they seem to be doing great!)
The new show is called Acéléré, and it’s gotten great reviews. (It just had a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as well as a strong run on London’s South Bank. )  The show should have gritty and non-stop athleticism, stirring music and dance, and an explosion of high energy and young performers.
