APPLY: Chicago Physical Festival-Deadline Dec 11, 2017
PHYSICAL FESTIVAL CHICAGO is calling for proposals of physical theater plays for its 5th edition of the festival that will run in June 2018.
An annual contemporary, visual, and physical theater festival based in Chicago, Physical Festival presents new forms of theater that are being performed around the world and in our backyard.
In 2014, Alice da Cunha and Marc Frost launched the inaugural Physical Festival through the Artistic Associate program at Links Hall. The inspiration for the Festival drew upon their combined experience in London as physical theater students at the London International School for the Performing Arts (LISPA).
After moving from London to Chicago, Alice and Marc were inspired to start a new festival. A festival that would promote a more progressive, fresh and physical approach to theater-making in Chicago. Alice and Marc remain as the co-Artistic Directors of the festival.
The aim of the festival is to present work that pursues storytelling through primarily physical mean. They are looking for original stories which start and ,end with the body as the foundational textual source.
They also present master classes with performers, provide opportunities for dialog about best practices in making physical theater, and create an opportunity to further the field of physical theater with discussions and informal meetings.
