The One that got away: Nearly Lear at the New Vic
Every once in a while there is a show that I’ve been meaning to see, that I want to see, that I planned to see, and somehow I miss seeing it. Such was the case with the New Victory’s production of NEARLY LEAR, a one woman portrayal of the story of King Lear as seen from the Fool’s perspective.
I’d had an idea like this a few years ago, and never acted on it. One of the visions of my work is to tell great stories in vulgar ways. The actress has worked with KneeHigh Theatre and Mump and Smoot, both groups that I have nothing but high praise for.  Suffice to say, this was a MUST SEE show for me.But with one thing leading to another, I somehow managed to miss it.
Of course, the NYT raved about it
There’s a bunch of other great shows coming up (and some are, predictably, at the New Vic also)Â Hopefully I won’t miss those.
Check out Susanna Hamnett’s website to see what other fine critics thought of the show.
Here’s a taste from the video. It looks great. Maybe I’ll get to see it next time it’s in town (or I’m in its town)
Ow! I missed it too!
We met Susanna at IPAY and saw a live preview of the work. She’s brilliant and lovely.
